AMERICA'S FIRST RESORT CELEBRATES ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF LEGENDARY HOSPITALITY

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Recognized as "America's First Resort Destination," Palm Beach County, Florida celebrated its 100-year anniversary today, marking the occasion at the Flagler Museum with the traditional cutting of a birthday cake specially prepared by the pastry chefs at The Breakers hotel.

Taking part in the informal ceremony were representatives from Palm Beach County's Tourism Development Council including Roger Amidon, executive director of the PBC Tourism Development Council, and Jorge Pesquera, president and CEO of the Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"100 years is quite a landmark for any destination, but few have the opportunity to celebrate a historic brand as we have in Palm Beach County," said Amidon. The Palm Beach County Tourism Development Council includes the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Cultural Council, the Film and Television Commission, and the Sports Commission.

Pesquera added, "Typically, birthdays are a time to look back, but here in Palm Beach County we're celebrating our 100th anniversary by looking ahead. Our traditions of hospitality excellence combined with real value for travelers, make Palm Beach County an iconic American destination."

The County's TDC agencies work cooperatively to promote the uniqueness of this historic destination and its rich traditions of hospitality. Underscoring the importance of this significant anniversary, a county-wide "1909 Founders Package" offers hotel rooms for only $19.09. The promotion presents the historic brand of Palm Beach County, while providing tremendous value to its visitors. Depending on the property, guests stay two, three or four nights and get an additional night for only $19.09 through December 2009. An impressive number of hotels, resorts and B&Bs, including the renowned Boca Raton Resort & Club and The Breakers are taking part. Area restaurants, attraction, sports and cultural venues are also unveiling anniversary themed discounts and special offers. Meeting planners can also secure rebates from $1,909 to $4,909 for events booked by September 30.
