Transurban Opens Southeast U.S. Office and Appoints Industry Veteran Bill Berry to Lead Regional Effort

NEW YORK, April 4, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Transurban, a leading international toll road investor and manager, is taking an important step in increasing its focus in the Southeast region of the U.S. with the opening of its fourth U.S. office, located in Atlanta, Georgia. Transurban's new office will be led by seasoned transportation expert, Bill Berry who joins as Vice President of Market Development for the Southeast United States. In this new role with Transurban, Mr. Berry will focus on bringing congestion relief by developing new market opportunities in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Transurban's expansion to the Southeast and appointment of Mr. Berry comes at a time when traffic congestion is becoming increasingly troublesome in this part of the country. For example, the travelling public in Georgia currently experiences the second longest delay in the nation due to traffic congestion according to Texas Transportation Institute's 2007 Annual Urban Mobility Report.

Commenting on the appointment, Michael Kulper, head of Transurban's North American business said, "We are thrilled to welcome someone of Bill's calibre to head up our expansion into the Southeast. We see significant opportunities for our business in this region as roadways become ever more congested and in need of innovative solutions that help people get to their destinations more quickly and safely. We have high hopes for the future in this area under Bill's direction."

Mr. Berry brings more than 35 years of experience to Transurban in engineering management, construction management and program management of highway, bridge, utility, industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects throughout the Southeast. As an Atlanta resident for more than 40 years, he brings local and regional transportation knowledge to this position, as well as extensive experience in the field of public-private initiatives and partnerships.

An expert in Public Private Partnerships (PPP), Berry was involved in industry, and bipartisan political efforts to draft and pass legislation to enable PPPs in Georgia. He served as local project manager and political leader for the development and submittal of Georgia's first PPP proposal -- Georgia 316. He also helped develop and submit a proposed solution to one of Georgia's most congested corridors -- GA 400.

Mr. Berry said, "I feel I've found a natural fit at Transurban. Like the company, I am passionate about finding and promoting sustainable solutions to the growing congestion problems facing the nation, working in true partnership with the state and the community," said Mr Berry.
