ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Varsity, the nation's largest cheerleading and spirit organization, hosted the 28th annual Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) National High School Cheerleading Championship event over the weekend at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. The UCA high school cheerleading championship is the largest of its kind in the world, joining more than 8,000 cheerleaders to compete for the national title.
While UCA annually holds approximately 100 competitions throughout the country, the national championship attracts the best teams throughout the nation. The event was viewed by more than 25,000 spectators, and the ESPN broadcast later this month will reach 90 million homes.
"This year's championships were a tremendous success! It is so rewarding for me to see these young adults using cheerleading as a way to build confidence and self esteem, and live a healthy lifestyle, all while having fun doing something they are so passionate about," commented Varsity founder and CEO Jeff Webb. Webb is responsible for transforming cheerleading across the nation by adding athleticism and entertainment to the routines in the late 70s.
