BOSTON, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- LPGA Professional Candy Hannemann today announced the establishment of Candy Cares, a pledge-based charity fundraising program that donates money to charity for each birdie posted during a competitive round. Starting with the SBS Open at Turtle Bay on February 15th, Hannemann will donate $50 for each birdie posted at an LPGA event during the 2007 season to charities that support youth and educational programs in her home country of Brazil.
Entering her fourth year on the LPGA tour, Hannemann is proud of her early accomplishments and eager to use her position as a professional athlete to give back.
"I'm excited to be at the point in my career where I have the opportunity to use my ability to raise money for the charities that I believe in," said Hannemann, who is currently in Orlando, Florida preparing for next week's LPGA tournament in Mexico City. "Candy Cares is a way for me to add a little extra incentive to perform at my best during every competitive round and ultimately give back to the deserving charities in my home country of Brazil."
Hannemann will have plenty of opportunities to accumulate birdies this season as she plays in more than 20 tournaments worldwide. Last year Hannemann recorded 172 birdies and with the goal of exceeding that total, she looks forward to providing a considerable donation.
Hannemann understands the value of a good education and wants to ensure that the youth of Brazil is given the opportunity to learn and excel. Hannemann worked to create the Candy Cares concept and establish a charitable giving program that will raise money for the disadvantaged youth in her home country.
