US Olympic Women's Rowing Team Comes to Lake Casitas

OJAI, Calif., Feb. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Feb. 18, 2007 the US Women's National Rowing Team is coming to Lake Casitas, Ojai, California to row for the public from 11am to 1pm. This will be the first time the National team has been back to Lake Casitas since they won their last gold medal in the 1984 Olympics at Lake Casitas. The US National Team is coming off a spectacular win at the Rowing World Championships in Europe this last summer. They are currently the fastest boat in the world and are favored to win in the 2008 Beijing Olympics next summer.

US National Women's team trains in the Princeton Olympic training center most of the year and spends 2 months in the winter in San Diego at the Arco Olympic training center in Chula Vista, California. This opportunity for the public to see the "faces of Beijing" is special because it is uncommon for a team of this caliber to make a trip out of their training grounds.

Lake Casitas is currently vying for the 2016 Olympic rowing venue. If chosen it is rumored that the Olympic Committee would build a boathouse on Lake Casitas. The Lake Casitas Park is very much in favor of encouraging rowing on such a beautiful venue and this weekend marks the beginning of the first rowing club on Lake Casitas, The Thacher School rowing club.
