Esperanza Announces Support for Latino Participation in 2010 Census

WASHINGTON, June 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Reverend Luis Cortes, Jr., President and Founder of Esperanza, the Hispanic church, and Hispanic faith leaders, in collaboration with the Census Bureau, will hold a press conference announcing their support of the 2010 Census on Thursday, June 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Emphasis will be placed on the importance of participating in and supporting the Census count to ensure fair and balanced representation in government, and to protect the public institutions and social service programs that are crucial to the survival of the Hispanic community. The Hispanic population must be represented in full and it must be communicated that participating in the 2010 Census will not and cannot adversely affect the immigrant community; in contrast, the health and vitality of Latino communities nationwide will only be strengthened.
