2008 New Yorker Conference: Stories From the Near Future

NEW YORK, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Tickets for the second annual New Yorker Conference: Stories from the Near Future will go on sale February 6, 2008, at noon E.T. The New Yorker Conference will be held at the IAC Building, in New York City, on May 8 and 9, 2008.

The 2008 New Yorker Conference will bring together some of the most forward-thinking minds and creative visionaries of the day, who will share the bright ideas, burgeoning trends, and bold innovations of tomorrow. Over two busy days, emissaries from the worlds of politics, science, technology, business, art, music, and design will present their groundbreaking work and talk with New Yorker writers and editors, among them David Remnick, Malcolm Gladwell, Susan Morrison, Michael Specter, Paul Goldberger, Jane Mayer, and Jeffrey Toobin.

Last year's Conference featured more than thirty-five distinguished speakers from a panoramic range of disciplines. The video-game designer Will Wright (The Sims) gave a preview of his new game, Spore. The Internet entrepreneurs Barry Diller (IAC), Arianna Huffington (The Huffington Post), and Craig Newmark (Craig's List) talked about the changing media landscape. Dr. Anthony Atala discussed the regeneration of bodily organs and tissues in the laboratory. And the Oscar-winning special-effects wizard Dennis Muren, of Industrial Light and Magic, gave a behind-the-scenes presentation on a hundred-and-eighteen-foot-wide digital screen. Other speakers included the architect Zaha Hadid; the mayor of Newark, Cory Booker; and Yves Behar, the designer of the One Laptop Per Child computer.
