Conde Nast Acquires NutritionData.com

NEW YORK, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Conde Nast announced today that it has acquired NutritionData.com, a leading health and nutrition Web site that provides high-quality tools and information to consumers eager to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

This acquisition, which was announced by Sarah Chubb, President of CondeNet, the Web division of Conde Nast, continues the acceleration of the company's Web presence, following the announcement of a deal last Tuesday to acquire Wired News. It allows for the expansion of food and health content on the Web, crucial categories for Conde Nast in print and online.

"NutritionData.com, with a large and growing audience of 600,000 monthly unique visitors, has great potential as an advertising venue," Chubb said. "But this acquisition is also exciting because it brings to us a powerful, consumer-focused tool set that gives users the ability to create recipes and select foods which best match their dietary needs, and to get a complete nutrient analysis for any food or recipe."

Chubb said the toolset on NutritionData.com could be integrated to complement the great content of Epicurious.com, the leading food Web site, and online home of Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines, as well as on the companion sites for magazines such as Self or Glamour.

"We believe it is vital for the next phase of growth on the Web to support high quality content by putting powerful tools in the hands of our users, and allow them to customize their Web site experience," Chubb said. "As the Internet approaches an even more sophisticated phase, we are looking at new ways to take advantage of the functionality the web offers for our lifestyle brands and we will continue to look at partnerships and acquisitions that would bring us that functionality."

Last week Conde Nast closed a $25 million acquisition of Wired News from Lycos Inc., in a deal that reunited the print and digital brands of Wired after eight years apart. Terms of the NutritionData.com acquisition were not disclosed.

NutritionData.com was founded in 2003. Most data on the site is supplied from the USDA, which updates information every six months.

CondeNet is the leading creator and developer of upscale lifestyle brands online, providing enjoyable, useful services that build upon the heritage of the world's most prestigious magazines. The company publishes significant online properties in the categories of food (Epicurious.com), travel (Concierge.com), and fashion (STYLE.COM and MEN.STYLE.COM). CondeNet is an Internet unit of Conde Nast.
