ThermoEnergy Scientist Appointed to National Coal Council

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., May 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ThermoEnergy Corporation OTCBulletinBoard: TMEN announces the recent appointment of Alex G. Fassbender, EVP and Chief Technology Officer, to the National Coal Council by Dr. Samuel W. Bodman, Secretary of Energy. The purpose of the Council is to inform and make recommendations to the Secretary of Energy with respect to any matter relating to coal or the coal industry. Chartered in 1984 under the Advisory Committee Act, the National Coal Council is one of the Department of Energy's most important advisory committees.

"We are both pleased and honored by Mr. Fassbender's recent appointment to the Council," said Dennis Cossey, ThermoEnergy's Chief Executive Officer. "We are all cognizant of the enormous challenges facing our nation in identifying and implementing cost-effective and environmentally responsible solutions for our future energy needs. I have every expectation that Mr. Fassbender will make a positive contribution to this endeavor."

In addition to the National Coal Council appointment, Mr. Fassbender was also invited to participate in the inaugural meeting of the Global Task Force on Carbon Capture and Sequestration ("CCS"); a new project of the Earth Institute at Columbia University which will advise the Secretary of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon as well as other world leaders on climate change issues. This Task Force brings together technical and policy experts from coal-producing and consuming regions of the world to examine the potential deployment of coal-fired power plants that capture and store the carbon dioxide they would otherwise emit to the atmosphere. The CCS Task Force will fill a critical gap in current discussions of climate and energy policy by addressing obstacles to carbon capture and sequestration deployment in an integrated framework that considers the scientific, political and economic aspects of the issue.
