MALVERN, Pa., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) have verified Johnson Matthey's signature technology--the CRT(R) (Continuously Regenerating Technology) Filter-- for reducing PM, HC and CO by over 85% while meeting both regulatory agencies' stringent NO(2) slip requirements.
As the global pioneer and leader in controlling emissions from mobile and stationary sources, Johnson Matthey's CRT filter has revolutionized modern diesel emissions reduction. The first filter verified for EPA's voluntary retrofit program, the CRT filter has become the industry benchmark for Heavy Duty Diesel Retrofit Technology, reducing PM, HC and CO by more than 85%.
Marty Lassen, JM Director of Commercial Development and Marketing, said this latest verification is very significant. "It is further confirmation that Johnson Matthey's technologies remain the best available choice for improving air quality. The CRT(R) particulate filter, which was introduced in the 1990s, was the first to be EPA/CARB verified and is also verified for use with up to B20 biodiesel blend.
The CRT particulate filter uses JM's patented process that oxidizes soot in the presence of NO(2) at a lower temperature than with oxygen. This lower temperature is compatible with typical diesel exhaust temperatures, so no supplemental heat is required. And this latest generation of the CRT system remains a passive device while minimizing NO(2) slip.
Said Lassen, "With over 150,000 CRT systems for retrofit worldwide and over a million first-fit, new engine CRT systems in place, Johnson Matthey technology offers maximum performance and confirmed durability."
