The new website offers visitors a wide variety of free information on casting alloys, processes, design advice and purchasing. Other features include a weekly metalcasting blog, monthly podcasts, metalcasting glossary, real-world casting examples and tutorials, and a directory of metalcasting suppliers.
A particularly valuable tool for OEM design engineers and casting buyers is the Casting Alloy and Process Selector (CAPS). This software provides design and sourcing information based on seven criteria such as estimated component weight, section thickness, surface finish and similar factors.
MetalcastingDesign.com replaces www.castsolutions.com, the original ECS website. In addition to the new features, MetalcastingDesign.com will continue to provide the other ECS online elements, such as web-only white papers, timely industry news and archives of past issues.
"MetalcastingDesign.com is now one of the most comprehensive resources for metalcasting information on the web," said Alfred Spada, MODERN CASTING and Engineered Casting Solutions publisher/editor and AFS director of marketing, communications and PR. "We believe the path to good casting design starts here, with everything from general information on metalcasting processes and alloys to specific design advice. This is another example of how AFS is striving to be the best source of information for the casting industry."
The new ECS website is one of five AFS websites devoted to information about specific segments or topics about metalcasting.
Developed in 1999, ECS magazine is delivered to 30,000 casting design engineers and buyers seven times per year. Articles are uniquely developed for the casting design engineer and purchasing audience.

Headquartered in Schaumburg, Ill., AFS is a not-for-profit technical and management society that has existed since 1896 to provide and promote knowledge and services that strengthen the metalcasting industry for the ultimate benefit of its customers and society.
