MINED Joins MITUR in the Red Card Campaign for Cleanliness

Those who litter will be given the red card

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, Feb. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) and the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation (CORSATUR) welcome the Ministry of Education's (MINED) initiative in joining the Red Card Campaign, whose goal is to have the student population contribute to the group effort of keeping El Salvador clean.

The campaign's purpose is to motivate the general population to take responsibility for the beautification and cleanliness of El Salvador. Every time someone throws a piece of trash from a car, a bus, or in any public place, a carrier may show a Red Card to that person for disrespecting the environment. And when someone picks up litter and throws it away, they can be rewarded with a Green Card.

The Minister of Tourism, Ruben Rochi, recognizes that children are the best teachers for adults. "There is no question about it. I insist that TOURISM INVOLVES ALL OF US. This campaign shows the level of responsibility of everyone in our society."

The official added that MINED includes beautification and cleanliness in its syllabus, teaching children from a very young age to not litter. "I believe we must take the responsibility of reinforcing the environmental education our children are given at school," explained Rochi.

MITUR-CORSATUR and MINED invite the Salvadoran population to show their good education and manners by not littering. "It is essential that every Salvadoran student experiences a change in attitude and ceases to litter. Let us show that we are well-mannered and wish to see El Salvador with a modern and clean image."

The Red Card Campaign will be widely covered by the media.
