NEW YORK, June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The World Trade Organization (WTO) Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) appointed two new members to the seven-member Appellate Body. Mr. Ricardo Ramirez Hernandez, Counsel in Chadbourne's Mexico City office, was appointed together with Mr. Peter Van den Bossche of the EC.
In making the June 19 announcement, the WTO expressed selection criteria for the appointments, citing, among other selection factors, "persons of recognized authority with demonstrated expertise in law, international trade and the subject matter of the WTO agreements generally."
Mr. Ramirez is Counsel and Head of the International Trade Practice for Latin America at Chadbourne & Parke in Mexico City. Mr. Ramirez's practice focuses on matters related to NAFTA and he has acted as lead counsel on several dispute proceedings before the WTO. Prior to joining Chadbourne and Parke, Mr. Ramirez was Deputy General Counsel for Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Economy in Mexico.
As the recipient of numerous honors for his work on issues related to international trade, including Latin America's Leading Lawyers in International Trade (Chambers Latin America 2009) and The World's Leading Lawyers in International Trade (Chambers Global 2009), Mr. Ramirez brings scholarly perspective and practical insight to the DSB and will undoubtedly contribute substantially to this important international tribunal.
Mr. Ramirez holds an LL.M degree in International Business Law from the Washington College of Law of the American University and a law degree from the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana.
