NEW YORK, July 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC announced today the recent addition of litigation shareholder Cynthia M. Monaco to its White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice. Monaco has spent the past 10 years in various positions with the Department of Justice and the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York.

About Monaco

Cynthia Monaco is a seasoned trial and appellate lawyer who has focused her practice on large-scale investigations and cases involving sophisticated fraud. Most recently, she was appointed by the Attorney General to serve as Senior Litigation Counsel for the United States Attorney's Office, where she prosecuted executives at Newsday and Hoy involved in a circulation-inflation scheme, Long Island pavers in a bid-rigging scheme involving public highways, a state judge and 15 other members and associates of organized crime for diamond-laundering and related crimes, and a prominent defense attorney for defrauding the federal court.

Previously, Ms. Monaco was appointed to a position of Special Assistant to the Deputy Attorney General in the Clinton Administration from where she advised the administration on policy matters. Throughout her career with the Department, Ms. Monaco has directly handled or supervised the investigation and prosecution of hundreds of cases. She is the recipient of the Justice Department's Director's Award for Superior Performance by an Assistant U.S. Attorney for her ground-breaking work prosecuting traffickers in endangered species.

Ms. Monaco received her A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard University and her J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, after which she served as a law clerk to the Honorable Francis X. Altimari of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She is admitted to practice in New York.
