Spring Air Ups the Ante on Mattress Warrantees

New Lower Body Impression Standards Part of Company's Commitment to Quality, Service & Value

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The Spring Air Company said today that it was changing its warrantees as part of its consumer push to drive its quality, service and value theme. The most significant change is that it will now change the definition of a mattress that is deemed defective as a result of body impressions to 1.25 inches, instead of the vast majority of the industry, which is at 1.5 inches.

Spring Air said it was able to provide its consumers with greater warrantee protection because of its "confidence" in the improved quality of all its products, including it new "Power Coil," a specially designed innerspring that is exclusive to the company and the first to be designed solely for one-sided mattresses.

The "Power Coil" has three distinct zones in the coil and throughout the entire innerspring with heavier gauge wire in the center third of the unit where the consumer needs the most support for proper spinal alignment. The top features conforming coils to provide comfort and to ease pressure points. The center provides extra support to relieve back pain, and the bottom third provides stabilization and durability. In addition to the comfort features, the key to the new innerspring design is that it increases the profile of the innerspring unit from six to nine inches clearly demonstrating comfort and value to the consumer.

This is a taller, more durable tempered steel coil, which is far superior to a traditional six-inch innerspring with several layers of upholstery. Much of the less durable material is removed, replacing the less durable foam with more durable steel. The likelihood of body impressions is nearly eliminated and the Spring Air Power Coil is designed for improved performance.

"There is no question that with the new Power Coil construction and the improved quality standards in all our production facilities, we can provide this added level of protection for the consumer," said Spring Air Chief Executive Officer Bob Hellyer. "This is a major change for the industry, and a message that our beds are so good, we'll stand behind them at a level unthinkable, until now."

Additionally, Nature's Rest and Chattam & Wells warrantees will extend to 20 years, and promotional mattresses will only be five years. Warrantees on the majority of the new product lineup Spring Air is introducing in 2008 will remain at 10 years.

Founded in 1926, The Spring Air Company is one of the world's largest mattress manufacturing and distribution companies. Its well-known consumer brands include: Sleep Rite; Back Supporter; Nature's Rest; Four Seasons; and Chattam & Wells.
