Appriss Links Criminal Justice Agencies with RMSConnect

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Criminal justice leaders now have a secure technology tool to share critical investigative information. Appriss has launched RMSConnect, an online service that allows agencies to share their records management system (RMS) data in near real-time. The data is only shared among approved agencies for investigative and other criminal justice purposes.

With RMSConnect, investigators can retrieve incident reports, citations, warrants, and other records to solve crimes or locate persons of interest. The service also allows agencies to collect and send RMS data to the FBI's National Data Exchange or N-DEx system, a data sharing service for law enforcement agencies across the country. The RMS data can be accessed through Appriss' JusticeXchange Web portal, the N-DEx Web portal, or the agency's database.

"Investigators no longer have to spend their day making time-consuming calls to agency after agency seeking information," said Brian Oldham, executive vice president for the Appriss Information Services Group. "This allows law enforcement to gather the data needed to make informed decisions and discoveries during an investigation."

RMSConnect has been a proven model in Texas through its statewide project known as Texas Data Exchange (TDEx.) Over the last three years, authorities have been integrating RMS systems across the state and making the data accessible through the JusticeXchange Web Portal.

"Texas has successfully used RMSConnect to locate persons of interest in connection with a number of crimes," said Theresa DaSilva, Appriss product director. "When the state wanted to share its data with N-DEx, we developed an approved interface to make that happen."

Agencies already see RMSConnect as a safe, efficient means of sharing RMS data among approved users. The data is kept at a CJIS compliant hosting facility and is updated at least once a day.
