NEW YORK, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte, a leader in bringing International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) education into college classrooms, today announced the availability of a complete set of IFRS course materials through Deloitte's IFRS University Consortium.
Featuring on-campus lectures and transcripts from Deloitte subject matter leaders, actual case studies and case solutions and other materials, the course is available free to all colleges and universities.
Established earlier this year, the Deloitte IFRS University Consortium is working with schools to address the need to bring IFRS curricula into college classrooms and accelerate the education process among faculty and students. The IFRS University Consortium numbers approximately 150 colleges and universities since being launched in the spring.
"We believe these materials are a significant step toward educating both accounting professors and students on IFRS," said D.J. Gannon, leader of Deloitte's IFRS Solutions Center in the United States. "The value of this IFRS course is that it consists of a complete set of materials that was delivered on campus at The Ohio State University last spring and employs real-life case studies and solutions from companies that have used IFRS. It's been road tested and will allow professors to immediately bring IFRS into the classroom."
Course materials are divided into eight sessions, with each session containing a unique set of presentations, case studies and lecture notes. The materials include a detailed introduction to IFRS and provide an overview of the differences between IFRS and U.S. generally accepted accounting principles. Specific topics covered include: financial statement presentation; revenue, inventory and income tax; business combinations, discontinued operations and foreign currency; intangibles and leases; property and asset impairment; provisions, pensions and share-based payments; financial instruments; and consolidation policy, joint ventures and associates.
The Ohio State University senior accounting lecturer, Patrick Turner, said, "We implemented the course in the spring and it was invaluable for students as well as professors to be able to gain IFRS knowledge through Deloitte's insights and client experiences."
