CHICAGO, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Registration for the 2009 Chicago Marathon is officially closed, and the only way to gain entry now is to join a non-profit team with availability. The Chicagoland Area Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure(R) invites marathon runners to help them move miles closer to a world without Breast Cancer by joining Marathon for the Cure(R). 90 spots are available, but they are going fast, and the registration deadline is Thursday, June 25, 2009.
Why run for Komen Chicago? Almost everyone is affected by breast cancer - a disease that strikes at random and for which the causes are still unknown - Komen Chicago knows that every moment counts. An estimated 5 million Americans will be diagnosed with the disease, and an estimated 10 million women worldwide could die, over the next 25 years, without a cure.
In order to run with Marathon for the Cure(R), runners will need to commit to raise a minimum of $2,200 without a current race entry or $1,500 with a current race entry. This number is set to keep program costs low and to ensure donations are utilized to maximize our investment in breast cancer research, screening, education and treatment.
