CHICAGO, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) has elected Dr. Marshall Dickholtz, Sr. the distinguished Chiropractor of the Year Award for 2008. Dr. Dickholtz, Sr., a founding member of the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA), is honored for his role as the adjusting chiropractor in the hypertension clinical trial published in the medical publication Journal of Human Hypertension. Additionally, we are grateful to Dr. Young Chung who donated his time and expertise in the performance of this trial as an associate doctor of Dr. Dickholtz.
The study, conducted in association with Dr. George Bakris, M.D., noted hypertension expert at the University of Chicago, revealed a significant drop in blood pressure when the C-1 vertebra is adjusted using the NUCCA technique, a result equivalent to the effect of taking two antihypertensive agents.
The publication of the research caused a stir in the medical community and received national attention on programs such as "Good Morning America." Dr. Dickholtz is not resting on his laurels. He is currently involved in several research projects, including autism, brain scans and Temporal Mandibular Joint Dysfunction to mention a few.
"The C-1 vertebra correction is vital for a healthy life," says Dr. Dickholtz. "The results of this research will benefit all of mankind."
Dr. Dickholtz has several publications to his credit and is in high demand as a speaker to present results of his work. Funding for chiropractic research has been extremely difficult to obtain. Dr. Dickholtz hopes the fame generated by his awards and work will aid in increasing funding for C-1 vertebra research.
