BURLINGTON, Mass., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The live case demonstrations at TCT 2007 will for the first time feature the use of a novel NIR imaging system recently developed by InfraReDx, Inc., a privately-held medical device company. The Company is also sponsoring a Breakfast Symposium to provide additional information about this new device to the cardiology community.
The investigational technology will also be demonstrated at Booth #6013 in the Emerging Technologies arena and in the new, "Cath Lab of the Future" located in the center of the TCT Exhibit Hall. Additionally, the Company will sponsor several investigator presentations on the detection of lipid-rich coronary plaque using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy technology.
Breakfast Symposium with Dr. James A. Goldstein, Dr. Gregg W. Stone, Dr. Sergio Waxman, and Dr. James E. Muller
InfraReDx will be sponsoring a Breakfast Symposium entitled "Beyond Angiography: Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Other Methods for Plaque Characterization" on the morning of Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in Room 144A, Level 1 of the Washington Convention Center. Breakfast will be served at 6:30 am, and the symposium will start at 7:00 am. Presenters include: Dr. James A. Goldstein (Beaumont Hospital), Dr. Gregg W. Stone (NY Presbyterian/Columbia), Dr. Sergio Waxman (Lahey Clinic), and Dr. James E. Muller (InfraReDx).
Live Case featuring NIR spectroscopy
Also scheduled for TCT 2007 is a live case demonstration featuring the Company's investigational device using NIR spectroscopy in the coronary arteries. The live case will originate from New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. For more information, visit www.tct2007.com.
Dr. James E. Muller's Speaking Engagements
Dr. James E. Muller is founder, CEO and President of InfraReDx, and will participate in the following TCT sessions:
-- Saturday, October 20: At 12:57 pm in Room 150B, Dr. Muller will be
delivering a talk entitled, "Is Vulnerable Plaque a Systemic or Focal
Disease? Observations from Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Coronary
Preparations, and Perspectives on Temporal Stability", at a session
devoted to "Vulnerable Plaque and the Vulnerable Patient", followed by
a moderated discussion and Q&A at 2:24 pm.
-- Sunday, October 21: Dr. Muller will moderate a session with Dr. James
Chesebro entitled, "Interventional Therapies for Vulnerable Plaque" at
2:59 pm in Room 150B.
-- Wednesday, October 24: Dr. Muller will be participating in the main
event of a Breakfast Symposium at 7:00 am in Room 144A entitled
"Beyond Angiography: Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Other Methods for
Plaque Characterization" with Drs. Goldstein, Stone and Waxman. See
above for details.
-- Also on Wednesday, Dr. Muller will co-moderate a "No Holds Barred"
panel discussion following a presentation by Valentin Fuster, MD
addressing: "Vulnerable Plaque Pathophysiology, Detection, and
Therapy: What Are the Critical Data Gaps? Does Focal or Regional
Interventional Therapy Stand a Chance?" This will take place in the
"PCI Controversies V" session moderated by Martin Leon, MD, in the
Main Arena, Ballrooms ABC on Level 3.
Investigator Presentations
The TCT schedule also includes two NIR spectroscopy scientific presentations selected by the organizing committee for delivery at TCT.
Craig Gardner, Ph.D., Director of Algorithm Development at InfraReDx will present the results of an autopsy study testing the ability of the NIR system to characterize plaques in human coronary artery autopsy specimens. The title of Dr. Gardner's talk is "Detection of Lipid-Rich Coronary Plaques through Blood in Autopsy Specimens with a Novel, Catheter-Based, Near-Infrared Spectroscopy System". It will be presented on Saturday, October 20 at 4:28 pm in Room 150B.
Sergio Waxman, M.D., Associate Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and Director of Interventional Cardiovascular Research at the Lahey Clinic will make a presentation on the results of use of the NIR device in patients. The title of Dr. Waxman's talk is "Near Infrared Spectroscopy, Detection of Lipid Rich Plaque: Preclinical Validation and Human Experiences (SPECTACL)." It will be presented on Sunday, October 21 at 11:24 am in Room 150B as part of the "Vulnerable Plaque, Pathophysiology, Detection, and Therapeutic Intervention, Part 2" session.
