PathFinder Realtime Workflow Management System Goes Live at Lakeland Regional Medical Center

LAKELAND, Fla., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- At Lakeland Regional Medical Center (LRMC), an automated, real-time, patient tracking and workflow management system now shows Nurses, Surgeons, Patient Families, OR managers and other perioperative staff how cases are progressing throughout the day. Deploying this technology is part of LRMC's mission to deliver exceptional health care, and fulfill their vision of creating "the best health care experience."

LRMC is using PathFinder(TM), an RFID-based tracking, workflow management, and communications system from PeriOptimum. PathFinder automatically communicates patient location as they move from registration through PreOp, to the OR, to PACU and PostOp. This information is integrated, analyzed, and shown on large wall-mounted display monitors, kiosks, or workstations located throughout perioperative services. OR nurses can see when patients are ready in PreOp. PACU nurses can see when cases are closing in the OR. All without phone calls or "sneaker-net." Each staff member can see a complete picture of the workflow or just those cases that affect them -- enabling better decisions about managing time and other resources. PathFinder serves as the "air- traffic control system" for perioperative services.

The medical center began working with PeriOptimum earlier this year focusing on streamlining perioperative processes and increasing surgical throughput.
