WHY: Consumers spend billions of dollars each year on fad diets,
unproven weight-loss miracle pills and potentially unsafe
supplements that may not work. Approximately 65 percent of U.S.
adults are overweight or obese, according to the National
Institutes of Health. Overweight and obesity are associated with
an increased risk of developing hypertension, type 2 diabetes and
           heart disease.
