CINCINNATI, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Bounty paper towels made a wish for its 40th birthday -- to give gifts to others. Together with Chandra Wilson, otherwise known as Dr. Bailey on ABC's hit television show "Grey's Anatomy," Bounty's birthday wish came true. Bounty announced today that the Make-A-Wish Foundation(R) received the largest percentage of the $500,000 total donation through Bounty's Cards That Count program, a three-month long online e-greetings program that encouraged Americans to send e-cards in support of their favorite charity.
Bounty donated a total of $500,000 to three charities through Bounty's Cards That Count, the American Cancer Society(R), the Make-A-Wish Foundation(R) and the National Breast Cancer Foundation(R). By sending free e-cards to family, friends and loved ones, America helped determine the percentage of the donation Bounty made to each of these charities. The Make-A-Wish Foundation received the largest amount of votes (43 percent). The American Cancer Society received 29 percent of the votes and the National Breast Cancer Foundation received 28 percent of the votes.
Bounty's Cards That Count was led by Wilson, who worked closely with each charity, to co-design the special e-cards.
"I am fortunate to be in a position where I can easily lend my voice to help others," Wilson said. "It means a lot to me that Americans rallied around three worthy charities to help support Bounty's Cards That Count, both as someone who knows the effects of life-threatening illness and also for others who have dealt with similar situations."
"Bounty's Cards That Count was terrific because it gave people an easy way to help others by sharing a kind thought with a friend or loved one," said David Williams, Make-A-Wish Foundation of America president and chief executive officer. "By donating to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and two other deserving charities, Bounty shows how simple acts can make a difference in people's lives."
Each e-card sent from http://www.quickerpickerupper.com/ translated into a vote for one of the three charities. Each charity initially received a $100,000 donation at the start of the program. The remaining $200,000 was allocated based on the percentage of e-cards sent in each charity's name. By donating to three separate charities, Bounty's Cards That Count made everyone a winner in the end.
"When deciding how to celebrate our 40th birthday, it made perfect sense to give back to others as a way to say thanks to our consumers who have supported Bounty for forty years," said Brad Schwan, Bounty brand manager.
Bounty's Cards That Count began in September and ran through January 3, 2007. To learn more about the charities, to donate directly to the charities themselves or for additional program details, visit http://www.quickerpickerupper.com/.
