DENVER, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Able Planet, Inc., a leader in innovative technologies for people with all levels of hearing loss, today announced that it has won the Best of Innovation award for its LINX Technology(TM), as well as three honoree awards from the 2006 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase. This prestigious showcase recognizes products and technologies that exemplify excellence in design and engineering.
This year more than 1000 entries from over 400 companies worldwide were evaluated based on innovation, value, aesthetics and contribution to the quality of life. Able Planet won the Best of Innovation for its LINX Technology in the Software/Embedded Technology category. The Able Planet Stereo Headphones were recognized as an honoree in both the High Performance Audio and Portable Audio categories. The Able Planet Deluxe Cordless Telephone also won an honoree award for the Telephone category.
"We are extremely honored to be recognized and receive these prestigious awards for creating our cutting edge technology and products. The LINX technology is the new industry standard for products that provide access to the world of communications," said Dr. Joan Burleigh, co-inventor and co-founder of Able Planet.
Embedded into everyday communication devices, LINX alters the audio signal carrying the sound more efficiently to the inner ear, which increases perceived loudness without increasing the volume control of the audio device. Independent studies show LINX improves speech intelligibility, enhances sound quality, reduces distortion and reduces electromagnetic interference, typically found with other technologies for people with hearing loss.
"We are in numerous discussions with strategic partners for embedding the LINX technology into standard consumer products," said Kevin Semcken, President and CEO of Able Planet.
With the LINX Technology people with all levels of hearing loss will now have the opportunity to hear music and audio books, use interactive computer software, telephones and cell phones via conventional consumer electronics.
"Technology allows people with disabilities to participate in society rather than being relegated to being a spectator," said Jo Waldron co-inventor and co-founder of Able Planet. Being deaf since birth, Ms. Waldron has been an advocate for people with disabilities her entire life. "Access is no longer a spectator sport, and LINX now provides everyday living access for people with hearing loss, such as Hyatt Hotel rooms."
The products will be showcased and demoed in the Innovations Plus Area at the Sand Convention Center, in booth #IP112 on January 5-8th, 2006 in Las Vegas at the 2006 Consumer Electronic Show.
