SEQUIM, Wash., Jan. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- 7 Cedars Casino (http://www.7cedarscasino.com/) announced today that it has purchased Dungeness Golf Course; terms of the deal were not announced.
Located on 122 acres in the "rain shadow" of the Olympic Peninsula, the Dungeness Golf Course is considered one of the top courses because of its playability year round in the Northwest. Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe (http://www.jamestowntribe.org/), owner of the 7 Cedars Casino, is one of the few Washington tribes to take an ownership position in a golf course.
"The acquisition of Dungeness Golf Course is another major step toward the future expansion of the 7 Cedars resort," said Tribal Council Chair Ron Allen. "We plan on renovating the course and clubhouse, making it one the area can be proud of. The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe will continue to expand its presence on the Olympic Peninsula through the development of a major luxury hotel and gas station and country market."
Built in 1970, Dungeness boasts a 6,456-yard, 18-hole championship golf course with both hospitality and banquet functions. The Tribe will begin running the course immediately and will improve the golfing experience by updating of the cart fleet and re-cutting of the cart paths. New construction of a clubhouse is expected to break ground in the near future.

About Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe
In 1874, a small band of S'Klallam families purchased 210 acres near the mouth of the Dungeness River, divided the land among tribal family members, and named the small community Jamestown for their leader Chief Lord James Balch. The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe remained independent on this land through the 1930s while other bands of S'Klallams were moved to reservations; they lost formal recognition as an Indian tribe in the 1950s. In order to re- establish their treaty rights and to better provide for their people, the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe achieved federal recognition on February 10, 1981. The area known as Jamestown is the historic settlement of the ancestors of this S'Klallam Tribe.
The Tribe's land base has since expanded to approximately 1,000 acres and its administrative headquarters are located in Blyn by Sequim Bay. Since achieving recognition, the Tribe has worked to create programs to assist Tribal members and build a strong economic base for future needs. The Tribe has expanded its economic base by establishing a variety of business ventures, including an excavating company, two art galleries, a business park building, a commercial and residential construction business, a medical supply company and 7 Cedars Casino.
