NEW YORK, March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Adopt-A-Minefield(R) Campaign will host its 2nd Annual New York City culinary-themed benefit dinner on April 4, 2007 at the United Nations. On this night -- recently recognized by the United Nations as International Day for Mine Awareness -- Adopt-A-Minefield will also pay tribute to some of the program's biggest proponents and long- time friends, Ted Turner and the Better World Fund, Adopt-A-Minefield Chair Former Ambassador Nancy Rubin and Culinary Humanitarian Daniel Boulud.

The theme for this celebration is the Night of a Thousand Dinners. This annual initiative of Adopt-A-Minefield encourages individuals from around the world to help clear deadly landmines by hosting fundraising dinners. The annual New York dinner is the center piece for this campaign.

"We are not done ridding the world of landmines," said Timothy E. Wirth, President of the United Nations Foundation and the Better World Fund, partners in the Adopt-A-Minefield campaign. "This annual event is an important way for us to continue to help fund the crucial work of those in the field. We hope that people will join us on this special evening."

The evening's festivities will start with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 6:30pm. Dinner begins at 8pm and features a live auction by Christie's, a short awards presentation to the honorees and a multi-course meal prepared by some of New York City's most celebrated chefs including: Alexandra Guarnaschelli of Butter, Michael Laiskonis of Le Bernardin, Galen Zamarra of Mas, Gabriel Kreuther of The Modern and Michael Lomonaco of Porter House.

About Adopt-A-Minefield(R)

Adopt-A-Minefield is a campaign of the United Nations Association of the USA in partnership with the United Nations and Ted Turner's Better World Fund. Its main goals are to clear minefields, provide assistance to landmine survivors, and raise awareness about the global landmine crisis. With partner campaigns in the United Kingdom, Sweden and Canada the campaign to date has raised nearly $22 million and cleared over 6,000 acres of high priority land in the most heavily mined countries in the world, including Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Croatia, Mozambique and Vietnam. Recognized today as the leading private donor to mine action in the world, Adopt-A-Minefield has engaged well over 300,000 people worldwide in resolving one of the most serious humanitarian problems facing a full one-third of the world's nations. About NIGHT OF A THOUSAND DINNERS

Adopt-A-Minefield's(R) Night of a Thousand Dinners(R) initiative began as an opportunity to come together on a single night, enjoy a meal and help make a difference in the global landmine crisis. Since its inception in 2001, it has evolved to include any kind of social, food-related gathering - be it a cocktail party, barbeque, wine tasting, tea party, luncheon or clambake taking place between March 1, which commemorates the enforcement of the Mine Ban Treaty and April 4th, recently recognized by the United Nations as International Day for Mine Awareness.

During this time period, individuals and groups are encouraged to host dinners that raise funds and broaden awareness about the devastating impact of landmines and the need to assist survivors and their communities. Guests bring a monetary donation in lieu of a host(ess) gift, which is donated to the cause. To date, over 17 million dollars have been raised and dinners have taken place in more than 50 countries around the world. Full information on how to host a dinner -- including recipes, an invitation toolkit and facts about the global landmine crisis can be found at http://www.1000dinners.com/.
