Barneys New York Moves to Pacific Place

SEATTLE, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Barneys New York has announced it will relocate its downtown Seattle store to Pacific Place with a late May/early June 2007 grand opening planned. Construction on the 16,448 sq. ft. store will begin in January 2007 at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Pine Street. The newly designed store will occupy space on both the street and second levels of the shopping center.

"We feel that the Seattle market has been great for Barneys. We have many friends -- and look forward to offering them an increased assortment in our new location," said Barneys CEO Howard Socol.

Barneys New York is a chain of specialty stores featuring both men's and women's attire along with a large assortment of cosmetics, jewelry and shoes. The new, larger location will allow Barneys to offer customers a broader assortment of designer clothing including the younger Barneys Co-op concept. Collections to be carried at Pacific Place will include Balenciaga, Lanvin and Prada for women and Jil Sander, Paul Smith and Dries Van Noten for men. The Co-op will offer Vince, DVF, Trovata and Rogan.

The company began in 1923, when Barney Pressman opened his first store in Manhattan with money he raised by pawning his wife's engagement ring. Over the years Barneys has become a New York City fashion icon frequently cited in popular TV sitcoms and major films. A wholly owned subsidiary of Jones Apparel Group, Inc., Barneys is easily recognized by its brilliant red awnings, imaginative window displays and world class assortment of women's and men's clothing.

"This announcement comes at a time when Pacific Place is generating some fantastic sales increases," says Lynn Beck, marketing manager for Pacific Place. "The shopping center's performance this year has far exceeded our expectations and is exceeding the national average."

The addition of Barneys complements the strong mix of well-known fashion merchandise offered at Pacific Place, including the recently announced Forth & Towne which opens October 25 on the Level 2.
