Babson Integrates DormItem Classifieds Into College's Web Portal

WELLESLEY, Mass., Dec. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- DormItem has become part of the Babson College's Web Portal, making Babson the first school to integrate DormItem classifieds for its students.

DormItem is a free college classifieds service, allowing students to buy and sell their used goods online. Trading is safer with Rapleaf, a portable ratings system for commerce. Additionally, DormItem uses a powerful 'microregional' database system, allowing students to see listings from neighboring college campuses as well.

Babson's integration of DormItem into its list of IT services is a response to the growing demand from students for high quality web services. Additionally, DormItem classifieds become a 'magnet' for a web portal, attracting students to see other school events and announcements posted by administration. Andy Lymburner, manager of Software Services at Babson, says, "When DormItem approached us with the possibility of providing our students with a Web 2.0 solution that included a customized feed that we could display in our Portal, it was an easy decision to make."

Adding DormItem into a web portal is extremely simple, as listings are served through RSS and custom built feeds. Other custom branding opportunities are available for a school that chooses to use DormItem, including color design, custom announcements, and a deeper integration with web services. Subscribing to the RSS feed is a free service, but additional branding comes with a subscription fee based on school enrollment size.
