LAS VEGAS, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- MIX 08 -- Me.dium, an award-winning social browsing software company, was selected by Microsoft to showcase unique social browsing capabilities in the company's new Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) Beta 1 release. Me.dium released a special version to support the first public demonstration of IE8 today at MIX08. The new Me.dium features were specifically designed to highlight the new functionality introduced in IE8, including WebSlices and Activities. It was revealed in public for the first time today at a 1:00pm "Open Space" session.
Me.dium is a real-time, social browsing application that enables users to surf the Web with friends, see popular sites online and discover new people and places based on the activity of others.
WebSlices allow IE8 beta users to easily subscribe to portions of a page that update dynamically, allowing users to receive updates from that page as content changes. In addition to implementing Webslices on the Me.dium profile pages, Me.dium now helps surfers discover and view WebSlices directly from the sidebar. The Me.dium sidebar alerts users to the presence of WebSlices on any page -- and even allows users to read each WebSlice, without leaving the Sidebar. In addition, Me.dium makes real-time recommendations for other WebSlices on other relevant web pages and provides direct links to them based on the real time activity of other Me.dium users.
Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1's new "Activities" feature allows users to quickly access a contextual service from any webpage. For example, with one click, users can map directions or search on keywords they have highlighted. As part of Activities, Me.dium now offers a powerful "Social Discovery" Activity from any page.
Me.dium's "Discover" Activity gives you recommendations, related to a page or selected key words, which are influenced by the real time surfing activity of all Me.dium users. Me.dium also displays a "real-time map" of user activity on the pages related to the selected text, page, or link so users can see how popular those pages are with Me.dium users in real time.
"In less than a week developing on IE8, Me.dium has delivered some incredibly sticky and fun ways to stay connected with our users, while emphasizing new functionality delivered in IE8," commented Kimbal Musk, Me.dium's CEO. "We are excited and humbled with the trust that Microsoft has shown around IE8 development and look forward to providing even more functionality for IE users moving forward."
Me.dium is a member of the MSFT Start-Up Accelerator Program. Me.dium's browser-sidebar-extension is the recommended add-on for IE on Windows Market Place.
