Jones Waldo, Miles & Stockbridge, and Paul Hastings Turn to Teneros for 24X7 Email Uptime for Microsoft Exchange

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- ILTA, BOOTH #814 -- Teneros today announced that three leading law firms -- Jones Waldo, Miles & Stockbridge, and Paul Hastings -- are joining the ranks of many companies that use Teneros Application Continuity Appliances to prevent email outages and the business problems that email outages can create.

"Today's law firms cannot meet their business imperatives without reliable email communications. Email outages can damage a law firm's reputation and client relationships, impede access to time-sensitive data, and cause firms to lose money and miss court-imposed deadlines," said Steve Lewis, Teneros CEO. "Email downtime is simply unacceptable, which is where we come in. Teneros appliances assure cost-effective, 24X7 email continuity, and given how important word-of-mouth is to IT initiatives in this industry, we expect Teneros to become the standard for eliminating the problem of email outages at law firms around the world."

Many businesses use Microsoft Exchange Server as the primary infrastructure for their email systems, but in the event that the Exchange Server unexpectedly goes down or needs to be taken down for planned, routine maintenance, companies need a back-up system so that they can provide employees with 24X7 email access. The Teneros Application Continuity Appliances for Microsoft Exchange provide 99.99 to 99.999-percent email uptime for businesses running Microsoft Exchange.

Jones Waldo

With more than 50 practice groups under the umbrella of business law, litigation and real estate, Jones Waldo serves approximately 2500 clients at its four offices in Utah and Chicago. The company has a single Microsoft Exchange Server supporting 85 attorneys and 250 total mailboxes, in addition to nearly 100 users who also connect to the server for mobile email access via Blackberry and other devices.

David Clark, Jones Waldo IT director, said he chose Teneros over other email continuity solutions because the appliance is simple and affordable, and it provides automatic failover in the event of an Exchange server outage.

"The best way I can think of to describe Teneros is 'no-brainer,'" he said. "It's just one of those products that make sense. It's easy to set up, easy to use, and is remotely managed -- placing no burden on our in-house IT staff. If the main Exchange Server goes down, the Teneros appliance fails over, and you're up and running immediately, just like that. Anyone with an Exchange Server whose job or reputation could be in danger if email fails would be foolish not to look in this direction."

Clark said before Teneros he used to rely on replication, which was more complex than he wanted and would have resulted in a lot of downtime to get the server back up and running if it crashed. As for maintenance, "Before Teneros there was simply no way to do it without bringing email down," he said. "Now it's not an issue."

Miles & Stockbridge

Representing businesses of various sizes in a wide variety of industries, including manufacturing, financial services, real estate, communications, telecommunications and IT, Miles & Stockbridge is using both the Teneros local high-availability and remote disaster recovery appliances. Two Exchange Servers support 200 lawyers and 300 support staff in nine offices spread across the mid-Atlantic region. The firm also has 100 mobile users receiving email on Blackberry and Goodlink devices.

"Our attorneys work around the clock to provide our clients with uninterrupted service, so we need a solution that guarantees 24X7 email continuity," said CIO Ken Adams. "I couldn't be happier with Teneros. Believe me, these appliances just plain work, and I welcome anyone to come in and shut down our production email server anytime to prove it. These guys know what they're doing."

Paul Hastings

With headquarters in Los Angeles and 18 worldwide offices, Paul Hastings provides a full range of services to clients around the globe. The firm has 30 Exchange Servers in place to support email for 1200 attorneys and 2300 administrative staff, plus approximately 1500 Blackberry users.

"We used to have an expensive distributed model to avoid putting all our eggs in one basket, but even that didn't provide bullet-proof high availability for Exchange," said Searl Tate, Paul Hastings director of network engineering. "We follow industry best practices, but until Teneros came along, there just weren't a lot of options for simple email continuity and disaster recovery. If you're willing to spend a lot more time and money on a sophisticated third-party clustering solution, you can get similar levels of high availability -- one with more complexity and a lot of moving parts. The Teneros appliances deliver on the promise of simple, high-availability and disaster recovery for Microsoft Exchange Server."

Tate said his team used to perform monthly maintenance during very short windows, but this presented a scheduling challenge due to the requirements of running a global operation. "Legal work goes on seven days a week, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, so scheduling maintenance was incredibly complicated. With Teneros, it's easy to take a server offline for extended maintenance without interruption to our end-users," he said.

"We've been looking at the Teneros solution for a couple of years. After a comprehensive technical and support services evaluation and analysis of Teneros' future goals, I'm confident that we made the right choice to partner with Teneros," said Stova Wong, Paul Hastings CIO.

Today's announcement was made at the 30th annual educational conference of the International Legal Technology Association. More information about the event is available at https://conference.iltanet.org/.
