, a leading provider of GPS-powered location platforms, today announced three new appointments to its management team. Dennis Bencala has been appointed Chief Financial Officer and Michael Kelly has been promoted to Vice President of Sales; both have joined SiRF's executive management team. Additionally, Al Heshmati has joined SiRF from Qualcomm as Vice President of Software Engineering.
"It has been my goal to assemble a team that can execute on our new strategic plan to grow the company to the next level," according to Dado Banatao, Executive Chairman of SiRF. "I am glad that we've been able to promote internal management team members who have performed well here at SiRF, as well as attract outside talent of high caliber."
Mr. Bencala has been Acting CFO and Principal Financial and Accounting Officer since August. Mr. Bencala joined SiRF in 2000 as Corporate Controller, and became Senior Director, Investor Relations and Business Development in August, 2007. Prior to joining SiRF, Mr. Bencala was the Controller at ScanVision, Inc. Mr. Bencala holds a BS in finance from San Diego State University.
Mr. Kelly joined SiRF in 1998 as Director, North America Sales. In August, 2006, he was promoted to Senior Director, North America Sales where he was instrumental in growing the region's business with key customers. Before joining SiRF, Mr. Kelly was Director of Sales at Alliance Semiconductor. Prior to Alliance, Mr. Kelly held various sales management roles at NEC, including Sales Manager, Strategic Accounts.
Mr. Heshmati joins SiRF from Qualcomm where he most recently was Senior Director of Engineering for GPS. In this role, Mr. Heshmati led the development of multiple generations of GPS and hybrid technologies used in Qualcomm chipsets. Mr. Heshmati arrived at Qualcomm via its acquisition of SnapTrack, which pioneered assisted GPS, in 2000. Prior to joining SnapTrack, Mr. Heshmati was at Trimble Navigation for ten years where he held various engineering roles. Mr. Heshmati holds BS and MS degrees in computer science from California State University, Fullerton.
