FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. and SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- D-Link, the end-to-end provider of computer networking solutions for consumers and business, today announced its Xtreme N(TM) Notebook Adapter (DWA-652) has met the Tropos Metro Compliant Extensions (TMCX) specification that enables Wi-Fi clients to optimize performance on metro-scale mesh networks.
Tropos(R) Networks, with more than 500 customer networks deployed worldwide, is a market leader in wireless mesh network systems.
According to Saar Gillai, vice president of engineering and product management for Tropos, headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., "D-Link's adapter is the only one of its kind that worked straight out of the box to meet our high standards without any modifications. It is now officially compliant with the demanding criteria for our TMCX program, and provides superior performance when used in Tropos MetroMesh(TM) networks."
Unlike conventional Wi-Fi hot spots that serve a few people in relatively close proximity, Gillai said, metro-scale Wi-Fi is a different story. "It offers broadband coverage for thousands of widely varying fixed and mobile clients over tens, or even hundreds, of square miles in outdoor environments that are dense or barren, hilly or flat, and contain streets that are crooked or straight. There is no such thing as a 'standard' Wi-Fi client -- signal strength varies on different clients making the user experience variable, even from the same location, depending upon the client device being used."
And, he added, "that is why it is critically important that metro-scale Wi-Fi network client connections be highly reliable."
Tom Paterniti, vice president of business development and partnership programs for D-Link Systems, Inc. in Fountain Valley, Calif., said: "We are proud of the fact that Tropos, a recognized leader in developing metro-scale wireless mesh networks, is now a member of our high-quality family of partners. We also are very proud that our adapters will now be highlighted as part of Tropos' Solutions Partner program."
The DWA-652, powered by the latest Draft 802.11n wireless technology, is designed for multiple bandwidth-intensive applications, including mesh networks, in homes and offices and wherever laptop users have access to Internet connections. It enables users to simultaneously make or receive Internet phone calls (VoIP), surf the Web, transfer files and stream high-definition (HD) media.
