RenderX Announces First Release of New XML-Based Visual Editor

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- RenderX, the market leader in "XML to PDF" and "XML to PostScript" technology, officially released a new software product, VisualXSL, targeted at creating templates for merging XML data with forms.

VisualXSL is a powerful tool specifically targeted at forms design for eXtensible Markup Language (XML) environments. Coupled with RenderX software for composing documents, VisualXSL delivers high-performance batch form printing as well as dynamic, on-the-fly generation of form-like documents. Typical applications include statements, checks, bills, invoices, applications and most other standard business forms -- anywhere your data is in XML and it needs to be printed in a structured way.

VisualXSL dramatically simplifies visual design of printable layouts that populate form-like documents with data. A PDF file or a raster image, such as a scan of a preprinted form, can be used as the layout background. The user simply drags-and-drops XML fields on the form to create eXtensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) templates. The resulting XSL style sheet that merges the layout and the XML data produces XSL FO for generating PDF, PostScript or AFP files using the RenderX XEP rendering engine. The resulting output can contain the imported background or the background may be omitted for use with preprinted forms. Separation of static content from the variable data in XML delivers a significant boost in rendering productivity compared with other approaches.

Within the design application, VisualXSL supports many form-based elements including dynamic text, check marks, dynamic images, and barcodes. The application has wizards creating address labels and paragraph blocks that mix static text with dynamic content. All elements can be easily placed onto the form layout and their location precisely controlled. The whole interface is developed using docking windows, supporting such things as using multiple monitors to design and preview results.

"The rapid expansion of XML-based publishing leaves our customers in need of easy-to-use tools," said Kevin Brown, vice president of sales and marketing. "VisualXSL adds to our portfolio of word processing plug-ins for Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign, delivering a complete solution for creating documents for high performance applications. VisualXSL makes XML publishing easy for direct mail, forms and invoices -- meeting the needs of every business, every day."

A 30-day trial version of VisualXSL is available for download on the RenderX Web site (http://www.renderx.com).
