Education Department Awards Perot Systems IT Infrastructure Outsourcing Contract

FAIRFAX, Va., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Perot Systems Corporation (NYSE: PER) announced today that its government subsidiary has been awarded the U.S. Department of Education's $400 million Education Department Utility for Communications, Application and Technology Environment (EDUCATE) contract. The ten year contract will serve to provide a broad range of information technology infrastructure services to the Department.

"The EDUCATE award underscores the true partnership that exists between the Department of Education and Perot Systems," said Peter Altabef, President and CEO of Perot Systems. "We have a proven track record of success managing large information technology outsourcing environments and we look forward to this expanded opportunity to help the Department further its mission."

The EDUCATE contract significantly expands the scope of the previous EDNet support services contract. Under EDUCATE, the Department of Education is migrating from a Government Owned, Contractor Operated (GOCO) IT environment to a Contractor Owned, Contractor Operated (COCO) managed services IT environment. This shift will enable the Department to focus on its core mission of providing world-class service to students, parents and teachers without the burden of managing IT service delivery issues.

"We have selected an experienced team to lead this initiative and I am confident that we will bring superior service and sustainable results to the Department over the next 10 years," said Jim Ballard, President of Perot Systems Government Services. "By utilizing our state-of-the-art technology center in Plano, Texas, Perot Systems is able to provide 24/7 coverage and the best commercial resources to ensure the Department receives the world-class service that Perot Systems has built our reputation on."

To meet its objectives, Perot Systems assembled an experienced contractor team including Verizon and Accelerated Solutions Inc (ASI) along with several other small businesses.

The contract will support more than 5,200 users in Washington, DC and 10 regional offices across the United States. The Perot Systems team will provide the following services:

    Desktop Support Services
    Helpdesk Support Services
    E-mail Services
    Network, Communication and Multimedia Services
    Disaster Recovery Services
    Special Services
    Printer Services
    General Cross Functional Services

The addition of the EDUCATE contract will widen the scope of the ongoing relationship between the Department of Education and Perot Systems. Perot Systems currently manages the Operation Maintenance and Enhancement for the Education Data Exchange Contract and Federal Student Aid's Integrated Partner Management Virtual Data Center.
