Modulus Video First to License Dolby Digital Plus Licensed Solution in MPEG-4 AVC Encoders

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Modulus Video, Inc. announced today that it is has signed an agreement with Dolby Laboratories, Inc. to be the first licensee of Dolby Digital Plus for a professional broadcast video encoder. Already in advanced stages of development, the integration of Dolby Digital Plus C-Source code enables native Dolby Digital Plus professional encoding within the Modulus Video ME2000 Series Multi-Format MPEG-4 AVC Encoders and the new MRE2000 Series Multi-Format MPEG-4 AVC Receiver Encoders.

The Modulus Video ME2000 and MRE2000 Series are multi-format platforms for delivering real-time MPEG-4 AVC HD or SD services at low bit rates. Whether the application is next generation broadcast DBS, terrestrial, or IPTV, Dolby Digital Plus is an ideal complementary technology to MPEG-4 AVC encoding thanks to its increased bit rate efficiency, its 7.1 channel surround sound differentiating capability, and its backwards compatibility with existing home A/V receivers via Dolby Digital Plus capable set-top boxes.

"Having Dolby Digital Plus professional encoding as a licensed solution offers our partners in the professional broadcast space the ability to introduce a more integrated encoding solution," said Sabine Bravo, Senior Manager, Professional Licensing, Dolby Laboratories. "We are delighted to have innovative partners like Modulus adopt this solution and help spread the worldwide adoption of the Dolby Digital Plus format in the broadcast space."

"In increasingly competitive TV markets where several 'me too' services are launching, the need for operators to differentiate themselves is paramount," said Bob Wilson, CEO and Chairman, Modulus Video. "Thanks to the work we are doing with Dolby and the flexibility of the Modulus Video encoding platform, we can easily add support for Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 channel encoding, offering a way for our customers to make their services stand out and to leapfrog their competition."
