Wescom Credit Union Chooses AT&T For New Network

PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) announced today that Wescom Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in the United States, has signed a new agreement with AT&T. Under the terms of the agreement, AT&T will provide Wescom with a primary private global voice and data network, and a new Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based disaster-recovery network. The agreement renews and expands a long-standing relationship between the two companies.

After searching for a more efficient and adaptable disaster-recovery network to replace its existing Frame Relay network, Wescom selected AT&T based on the networking company's reputation as the industry leader in MPLS networking and the long-standing business relationship between the two companies. AT&T delivered a more reliable, fully meshed Internet Protocol (IP)-based disaster-recovery network that will be used as a backup to the primary ATM network. In the event of a catastrophic failure on the ATM network, the MPLS network will transport all mission-critical financial data from Wescom's 47 remote branches to the company's newly constructed operations center in Anaheim, Calif.

"We're thrilled with the solution that AT&T has provided to Wescom," said Sam Sandhu, vice president of Information Technology at Wescom. "This is a milestone for our company, because it marks the first time in Wescom's history that mission-critical financial data will be transported over an IP-based network. Not only do we have a stellar disaster-recovery network, but by replacing Frame Relay ports and PVCs with IP circuits, Wescom has been able to lower the cost of its disaster-recovery network and simplify the process for provisioning service at new branch locations."
