DALLAS and ASHBURN, Va., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- CREDANT Technologies, a leading provider of mobile data protection solutions and Intelligent Decisions, one of the fastest growing systems integrators in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, today announced that U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has awarded them a contract to protect data stored on all laptops used within the agency. GSA is the third federal government agency in the past three months to contract with both CREDANT and Intelligent Decisions for security software and services that protect mobile data. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) recently awarded similar contracts to CREDANT and Intelligent Decisions.
GSA serves as a centralized procurement and property management agency for the federal government, responsible for more than one-fourth of the government's total procurement dollars. The agency influences the management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,300 government-owned or leased buildings and 170,000 vehicles. Under the contract, Intelligent Decisions will implement centrally managed intelligent encryption software from CREDANT combined with services from Intelligent Decisions to secure personnel and other data on laptops.
The White House Office of Management and Budget -- OMB memorandum M-06-16 includes a Security Checklist that recommends best practices for the protection of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) as determined by NIST, the National Institute of Standards and Technology. By partnering with CREDANT and Intelligent Decisions, GSA can cost-effectively support its mobile workforce with the peace of mind that sensitive information is encrypted. CREDANT introduced the industry's first Federal Information Processing Standards -- FIPS 140-2 certified intelligence-based encryption solution for Microsoft Windows that does not encrypt the operating system. This 'intelligent' approach protects against the internal and external threat of a data breach, dramatically reduces management complexity, and provides an extensive audit trail for compliance reporting. The CREDANT solution secures laptops, desktops, tablet PCs, smart phones, PDAs, and external media from a single management interface, while uniquely integrating with enterprise directories for centralized security policy management.
"Our close partnership with Intelligent Decisions is helping a growing number of federal agencies meet the OMB mandate to protect personnel data with encryption," said Chris Ostertag, Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Field Operations of CREDANT Technologies. "GSA now joins OPM and DFAS in securing sensitive mobile information sensitive with CREDANT's policy-based intelligent encryption software."
"Working closely with CREDANT once again, we will enable GSA to quickly meet the OMB directive to protect all personally identifiable information that is stored on agency laptops," said Gino Antonelli, Executive Vice President Sales and Business Development for Intelligent Decisions. "Intelligent Decisions brings technology together with services to securely address the growing threat to federal data assets."
