Johns Hopkins University and Collexis Announce Collaboration on Expert Profiler System

COLUMBIA, S.C., Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Collexis Inc., a leading developer of knowledge management & discovery software, today announced a collaboration with Johns Hopkins University to develop an Expert Profiler System based on the Collexis Knowledge Discovery Platform. This technology platform is already in use at the National Institutes of Health, Merck, Lockheed Martin, World Health Organization and elsewhere.

This project will utilize Collexis' patented Fingerprinting process which searches text for ideas & concepts, rather than key words. The platform creates Collexis Fingerprints or conceptual maps of text such as word processing documents, websites and emails. Through this novel approach, Collexis can build unique applications to search, index, aggregate, prioritize, trend, and make predictions based on a variety of sources in multiple fields, without the limitations of language or dialect.

"Johns Hopkins, in keeping with their tradition, is at the forefront of Global research. I have continually been impressed with the vision of the senior leadership at Johns Hopkins University to see the need for cross- disciplinary collaboration and the sharing of knowledge across the University," said William Kirkland, CEO of Collexis Inc.

"Having visited with a number of leading research universities, I believe that this research profile repository at Johns Hopkins will be the first real- time, continually updating, searchable researcher profile system in the U.S. It clearly has implications for hiring, promotion, retention, and analysis of faculty, departments, and institutions in ways that were impossible to contemplate even a year ago," said Kirkland.

"This project with Johns Hopkins is a landmark project within research institutions. To my knowledge, there is no other University globally with this level of searchable and marketable research profile within academia." said Dr. David Blake, chairman of the Collexis Scientific Advisory Board.

"I have been in leadership positions with several large research institutions and the Collexis solution for this continual research challenge is unparalleled," said Blake.

The goal of the joint project is to help improve and facilitate interdisciplinary teaming, researcher recruitment, performance retention, and internal review. The researcher expertise profiles will be generated based on patented Collexis' Fingerprints or conceptual maps of the researchers' publications from a variety of sources, according to Kirkland.
