Intelius Rushes to the Defense of 26.5 Million Veterans at Risk for Identity Theft

BELLEVUE, Wash., May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelius, Inc., a company that empowers consumers with information for intelligent decisions, today announced it is offering its award-winning, proactive identity theft prevention service, IDWatch, to the 26.5 million veterans whose personal information may have been compromised after a burglary disclosed Monday by the Department of Veteran Affairs. Intelius' IDWatch normally sells for approximately $100 for one year's service, but in a show of support for United States veterans, the company will make a year-long subscription to IDWatch available immediately for only $19.95.

"It is unsettling to learn that millions of our Armed Forces veterans may be at increased risk of identity theft," said Admiral Bill Owens, chairman of the board of Intelius. "Intelius has devoted years and millions of dollars developing breakthrough identity theft monitoring technology to combat scenarios such as this one at the Veterans Administration. In recognition of the service that these veterans have provided to our country, Intelius is proud to offer an 80 percent discount on our award-winning IDWatch product."

"When the news broke Monday regarding the possibility that 26.5 million US veterans were at risk for identity theft, our immediate reaction was to find a way to help," said Naveen Jain, CEO, Intelius. "We reached out to the Department of Veterans Affairs and arranged for Intelius' IDWatch to be made available to any veterans impacted. We are proud of our men and women serving in the armed forces and hope this gesture will ease the minds of those worried about identity theft after this unfortunate incident."

IDWatch monitors customers' personal, professional and financial information, alerting them to potentially fraudulent activity in real time via email. Upon subscription, Intelius' IDWatch provides customers with an identity report, which includes information found in public records, commercial records and credit reports. Changes to any of this information offer early warning signs of ID theft, and trigger an email alert instantly. IDWatch also scours the black market and online forums for the sale, trade and use of its customers' identity-related information including Social Security numbers, credit card numbers and more, collecting compromised data and alerting customers if their information appears in such forums. This element will be particularly useful to veterans affected by the recent breach, should a fraudster attempt to sell their identity-related information. Additionally, Intelius' IDWatch provides subscribers with a non-deductible $25,000 insurance policy for out of pocket recovery costs, in the event that identity theft occurs.

"As a veteran, I was surprised to learn that my personal information had been compromised. The risk of identity theft is simply too great to ignore," said Jack Dein, a former US Air Force Captain. "Intelius offering such a deep discount on IDWatch is a much-needed show of support for millions of Armed Forces veterans in light of the recent events. By signing up for this service, I have regained peace of mind about my identity, and I'll sleep better tonight."
