Combined Solution Augments Mainframe Environments to Boost OLTP Applications

Azul Systems and LegacyJ Partner to Bring Network Attached Processing to CICS and COBOL Applications

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Azul Systems, Inc., the pioneer of the industry's first network attached processing solution designed to unbound compute resources for Java(TM) and J2EE(TM)-based applications, today announced an alliance with LegacyJ Inc. to deliver the benefits of network attached processing to COBOL applications using LegacyJ's COBOL-to-Java technology. With Azul Systems and LegacyJ, companies can now execute COBOL business applications on a Java Application Server environment tapping into Azul(TM) Compute Appliances -- without the need to rewrite any code.

With today's announcement, companies can now work easily between COBOL and J2EE platform based applications and can run those applications through Azul compute power. Azul Compute Appliances allow enterprise Java applications to tap into a shared massive pool of compute resources without modifying the application or existing infrastructure.

"The benefits of network attached processing can now be gained by the considerable base of online transaction processing systems that are based on COBOL and CICS," said Stephen DeWitt, president and chief executive officer at Azul Systems. "The combined solution lets customers bring COBOL applications into the world of Java-based e-businesses, web services and service-oriented architecture without leaving behind the trusted mainframe environment or retraining staff."

"Without requiring any rewriting of code, LegacyJ enables companies to compile legacy CICS and COBOL programs into Java byte code on the fly," said Charles Townsend, president and chief executive officer of LegacyJ Inc. "The robust Azul Compute Appliances ensure scalability, availability and provide an enterprise-class infrastructure required by mission critical applications and expected by customers."

The companies are working together on joint sales and marketing of their interoperable compute and migration solutions to customers.
