Portable Wireless Broadband Today for Mass Markets With a View to Mobile WiMAX in the Future

Horizon Wireless Speeds Internet Access Deploying Portable Wireless Broadband From Navini Networks

STAFFORD, Texas and KANO, Nigeria, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Horizon Wireless, one of Nigeria's leading Fixed Wireless Access developers of private infrastructure, announced today that it is launching its 3.5 GHz Wireless Broadband network using wireless wide-area broadband equipment from Navini Networks, Inc., the leading provider of non-line-of-sight, zero-install(TM) wireless broadband technology for mass market applications.

Horizon Wireless, through its USA-based network service provider and technology consultant GXC Corp., selected Navini's Ripwave(TM) system to offer users multi-megabit network speeds, a zero-install(TM) plug-n-play modem, and unfettered broadband access anywhere in the coverage area.

"Nigeria is woefully behind many other countries in terms of broadband penetration," said Ibrahim-Ali Amin, Chairman of the Board, Horizon Wireless. "We will change that by 'unwiring' and bringing wireless broadband to the population, with very attractive rates."

"With an estimated 5 million people in Kano City, Navini Networks is proud to deliver high speed, personal broadband without cables, copper or costly installations," said Roger Dorf, president and chief executive officer, Navini Networks. "Our Element Management System (EMS) will allow Horizon to offer tiered service plans to address the varying needs of subscribers."

With Navini Ripwave(TM) equipment, Horizon Wireless will be able to quickly provide much-needed personal broadband services to residential and small office/home office (SoHo) customers. With Navini's next-generation broadband wireless technology, Horizon Wireless can immediately and affordably deliver a modem to the customer, who can be up and running on their broadband connection on the same day.

Dorf added, "And Navini's Ripwave(TM) equipment will position Horizon Wireless effectively for mobile WiMAX 802.16e."
