NEW YORK, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Hair loss is a condition that affects approximately 85 percent of men and 60 percent of women at some time in their lives. Most commonly, hair loss is not caused by just one factor, but by a combination of two, three, or even more things simultaneously affecting your hair cycle.

Concerning this year's Presidential candidates, Dr. Kingsley asks the question:

"Do we care that he's got no hair?"

"Believe it or not, there have been many studies designed to answer this question (most with men, sorry Hillary). One study concluded that a thinning pate implied increased intelligence though a lower physical attractiveness grade," Dr. Kingsley explains.

"Another study looked at the percentage of men with hair loss who were state governors and in U.S. Congress. It was found that the number with hair loss that held these powerful positions (37.2%) was well below the national average (52.3%). The researchers wondered if the reason for this was that people just didn't vote for the follically challenged.

The results were surprising in that there was no evidence that candidates with hair loss were discriminated against during elections, in other words, voters would vote for them irrespective of the amount of hair they had. The study did find, however, that the under-representation was due to men with hair loss having a negative self-perception, which discouraged them from running for office.

This is good news for the Republicans who boast a large field of follically challenged candidates, particularly John McCain, Fred Thompson, and Rudy Giuliani. They can hold their heads high, as their sparse domes are not turning away the voters. In fact, it could be argued that they are perceived as being more intelligent and have an above average sense of self-worth."

The answer: "He's got no hair, but we don't care!"
