Borders Rewards(R) Updated for 2007

Members Can Now Earn 'Borders Bucks'

Borders Rewards(R) Updated for 2007

ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Borders Rewards was launched just over a year ago and now the customer loyalty program has close to 17 million members, making it one of the largest such programs in specialty retail. The program delivers ongoing savings and discounts on the hottest book, music and movie titles to loyal Borders customers who are members. With the critical first year of the program completed, and customer feedback carefully considered, the company is modifying Borders Rewards for 2007.

Beginning April 12, Borders Rewards will offer a new benefit -- "Borders Bucks." Members earn "Borders Bucks" in increments of $5 for each cumulative $150 they spend on qualifying purchases in a calendar year at Borders and Waldenbooks stores nationwide. The program is cumulative so all qualifying purchases add up and are applied to the calculation of Borders Bucks once a member spends a total of $150. So, if a member spends a cumulative total of $150 in qualifying purchases by the end of April, that member will receive a $5 "Borders Bucks" certificate via email during the first week of May to spend during that month.

In addition to "Borders Bucks," members will continue to receive the valuable, members-only weekly coupons and savings opportunities through the Borders "Shortlist," a popular email newsletter that highlights the hottest titles each week. There will also be a new benefit for Borders Rewards members called Bonus Rewards Events, whereby members get special deals periodically throughout the year. Members will be notified in advance of Bonus Rewards Events. With the introduction of Borders Bucks and Bonus Rewards Events, Holiday Savings Rewards and Personal Shopping Days will be phased out.

Borders Rewards members also have a chance to win one-of-a-kind "Dream Rewards" experiences such as the recently announced contest to win a trip to New Orleans to see Grammy Award winning singer Harry Connick, Jr. and to work alongside him, building homes for displaced local musicians.

"We are excited that nearly 17 million loyal customers have joined our Borders Rewards program in just the first year. We view this response as a strong endorsement of our brand," said Borders Group Chief Marketing Officer Michael Tam. "We sincerely appreciate our loyal customers and are proud to show our gratitude through this program. We are confident we've made Borders Rewards even simpler for members and with the unique experiences of "Dream Rewards," we are also making the program even more exciting."

To become a member, customers just pick up a free Borders Rewards card at any Borders or Waldenbooks store nationwide and register online at http://www.bordersrewards.com/ where full program information - including frequently asked questions - is posted.
