NEW YORK, April 4, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- The multimedia production Cult of Color: Call to Color opened last night in a sold-out world premiere at Ballet Austin. The result of a collaboration between three visionary artists, the ballet features choreography by award-winning Ballet Austin artistic director Stephen Mills, concept and design by contemporary visual artist Trenton Doyle Hancock and an original score by nationally acclaimed composer Graham Reynolds. Last night's performance inaugurated a 275-seat state-of-the-art theater -- AustinVentures StudioTheater -- nestled in the company's new 34,000 square-foot Butler Dance Education Center and Community School in downtown Austin.

The production brings to life Hancock's ongoing artistic mythology, telling the story of the Mounds, Vegans and other imaginative creatures whose struggles embody themes of life and death, good and evil, spirituality and morality. The narrative unfolds against a striking 17 by 60 foot backdrop, designed by Hancock and created in collaboration with Philadelphia's The Fabric Workshop and Museum. Fantastical costumes and an otherworldly score also contribute to this fearlessly original ballet.
Select tickets for the remaining seven performances are still available, with matinee and evening shows through April 13th.
