NYSE: AAI, announced today that the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has awarded the airline 119 city pair contracts for federal employee travel for the 2009 fiscal year. These contracts have an estimated value of more than $47 million, a nearly 30 percent increase over last year.
Last year, the GSA awarded AirTran Airways 118 city pairs for government travel during the 2008 fiscal year, worth approximately $36 million. AirTran Airways markets awarded the highest number of city pairs by the GSA include: Atlanta at 43, Orlando at 14, Baltimore/Washington at 12, Ft. Lauderdale at 10 and Tampa at 9.
The GSA, an independent agency of the United States government, helps manage and support the basic functioning of federal agencies. Among other management tasks, the organization provides transportation to federal employees.
