SAO PAULO, Brazil, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- GOL reports that an error has been found in the passenger list for Flight 1907, dating from last Friday, September 29. The original list included Carlos Souza Junior, a passenger who was in fact on the flight, but another name, "Carlos Sousa," was added to the list by mistake and did not correspond to any passenger.
This procedural error occurred because the first passenger list generated by GOL's office at Manaus airport, where Flight 1907 originated, contained abbreviations. For example, Carlos Souza Junior was on the list but his name was misspelled: "Junior" was missing and the last syllable of "Souza" had an "s" instead of a "z". When the passenger list was checked, Carlos Souza Junior and "Carlos Sousa" were mistakenly considered to be two different individuals.
GOL regrets the error and hereby corrects the original information as follows:
- Carlos Souza Junior was a passenger on Flight 1907.
- There was no passenger on Flight 1907 with the name "Carlos Sousa,"
although this name appeared on the original list.
- The official number of passengers on Flight 1907 was therefore not 149
but 148.
- Six crew members were also on Flight 1907, bringing the total number
who died in the crash to 154.
The passenger list has already been corrected on GOL's website and all future advisories will refer to 148 passengers and 154 occupants of Flight 1907.
